This programme will work with a maximum of ten young people over a period of nine weeks, with two sessions per week. In the first part of the programme, the young people will try their hands at various different creative music and media activities, allowing them obtain new skills & experiences, by unleashing their creative potential. Each participant should leave the course with a production track, a recorded DJ performance incorporating their production track and the knowledge, skills and confidence to go on further into the music or radio broadcasting industry.
The aim of this programme is to work with a group of ten identified NEET young people who are not yet job/work ready, but need support to untap potential skills and talents. In order to be successful in finding a job or even in knowing which direction to take, young people need to have confidence in themselves and their abilities. The theme “Who Am I?” will allow them to explore what makes them who they are and who do they want to be. It will increase their ability to express themselves in positive ways and to discover new aspirations.
Start in Salford can help young people to be ‘interview/job ready’ by helping them to realise who they are, what they can achieve, above all the programme is designed to help them to recognise why and how they can change/adjust behaviour in order to realise their potential.
Activities will be split into two streams:
• DJ Skills & Music Production
• Radio Production
In the first couple of sessions, participants will be able to try their hand at both and then choose to focus on just one art form (or both). One of the objectives of the project will be to create a radio broadcast as their final piece, incorporating all the skills they have acquired on the project.
The second arm of this programme is to participate in outdoor adventure sports with Child Action Northwest. Here participants can take part in numerous activities including mountain boarding; rock climbing and various water based activities.
To be eligible for this programme, participants must be aged between 16 -24 years, NEET and resident in the CHALK (Charlestown and Lower Kersal), Broughton and Blackfriars areas.
