Salford State of Sector Survey 2010
Our Sector worth millions to Salford
Work carried out by 20,000 Salford volunteers in the sector is worth more than £121 million to the city each year, says a new report on the sector in the city.
The sector includes over 1,300 voluntary or community organisations, cooperatives, social enterprises, faith groups and community interest companies had a total annual income in 2009-10 of £156 million and provides jobs for over 6,500 people, according to the Salford State of the Sector Survey 2010, commissioned by Salford Community and Voluntary Services (CVS) and undertaken by Sheffield Hallam University’s Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR).
“Most people aren’t aware of how much voluntary and community groups do in the city and I think they’ll find these figures very impressive,” says Salford CVS Chief Officer, Lynne Elliot. “The report highlights just how important the sector is to Salford in both economic and social terms. Now we need to ensure these groups are able to survive the difficult times ahead, so they can continue to provide these vital services.”
Staff at Salford CVS would like to say a big thank you to all those groups who took part in the Survey. We hope the results support you in your future work. If you would like copies of the report, leaflet or would like someone from Salford CVS to talk with your group about the report findings and how you can use them please contact us on: 0161 787 7795 or email: office@salfordcvs.co.uk.
