VOCAL: CYPF Hidden Young People Workshop
Most young people in Salford achieve in education or training and are able to make successful transitions into work and adult life. However, there are still significant young people who do not fulfil their potential because they lack the aspirations, skills, knowledge or support needed to progress into the work of work or further education.
The barriers and challenges faced by these young people are often greater than those experienced by the majority of the working age population. In general young people are nearly three times more likely to be not in education, employment or training (NEET) than adults, and this substantially increases in communities where deprivation, poverty and social inequalities exist.
In Salford, there are proportionately more young people who are NEET than in most other areas of the country.
This is why VOCAL Children, Young People & Families Forum is organising a workshop to explore NEET reduction.
A the workshop you will hear about the research commissioned by Salford City Council and carried out by Salford University which gives an insight into the experience of young people not in employment, education and training and not claiming benefits (hidden young people in Salford) and to work with Salford City Council to shape their NEET Reduction Strategy: A strategy and action plan for reducing the number of young people not in education, employment and training in Salford.
