Would you like to find out about the major Changes in Health and Social Care in Salford and Greater Manchester?
From April 2022 there will be significant changes to the way in which health and care are managed and commissioned across Greater Manchester. The plans are for a Greater Manchester Integrated Care System (ICS) which will have broad responsibility for:
- Improving population health and healthcare
- Tackling unequal outcomes and access
- Enhancing productivity and value for money
- Helping the NHS to support broader social and economic development
The current proposals are that the NHS CCG’s will be replaced by a ‘locality’ board or similar oversight group, the exact nature of this is currently subject to consultation. A recent King’s Fund briefing says that:
“A key premise of ICS policy is that much of the work to integrate care and improve population health will be driven by commissioners and providers collaborating over smaller geographies within ICS’s”
The collaboration on smaller geographies may be interpreted as meaning that neighbourhoods, with populations of 30,000 – 50,000 will be the focus of local population health integration and collaboration. This presents many opportunities and challenges to the VCSE, health and care sectors in Salford, but a focus on place plays to many of the strengths of our sector.
Healthwatch Salford will share an update on current projects designed to encourage people in Salford to have their say on health and social care, primarily the Speak Up Salford Fund. This is a grant funding opportunity for local organisations and community groups who can apply for up to £1000 to deliver a project that focuses on capturing people’s experiences of health and social care, forging better links with health and social care providers and resulting in the improved wellbeing of people in the community.
Salford CVS will share an overview of the Answer Cancer Programme which is a social movement of over 700 people and 60 organisations. Answer Cancer want to share their cancer prevention and health promotion messages across Salford. They’re looking to work closely with local community groups and VCSE organisations to ensure the people of Salford know their cancer screening options and are in a position to make fully informed decisions about their own health and wellbeing.
