This short training seminar will cover critical issues around criminal record checking and how it fits into the new broader safeguarding framework.
The Criminal Records Bureau has been replaced by the Disclosure and Barring Service, with changes to the Disclosure system itself. This new form of check and its consequences for volunteer managers and volunteer involving organisations will be clearly outlined. The session will also review the pre-existing categories of criminal record checks, and give advice on how to make a decision on which roles do and don’t qualify for a check.
The training course will provide guidance on:
- Form completion – getting it right first time
- New identity checking guidelines and records
- DBS legislation – are you meeting your responsibilities and legal obligations?
- The DBS code of practice – do you know your role and responsibilties?
- Using the Update Service - applicants registering online and keeping DBS certificates up to date
- Regulated activity – how do the changes introduced on 10 September 2012 affect you and your organisation?
