MECC Salford Cancer Champion Training

Registration is closed for this event
The MECC cancer module is part of the overarching cancer early detection programme and is designed to equip frontline staff with the tools to be able to have appropriate brief conversations with others we meet.

More people survive cancer now than die from it!

This is the result of a co-ordinated attempt over the last five yours to promote earlier diagnosis of cancer to ensure people get help and advice as soon as they suspect cancer symptoms.  It is proven that early detection saves lives and makes treatment less invasive and distressing for the cancer patient, their families and carers.

In Salford we have had a focus on cancer for a number of years and the results are getting better.  However, we still have some way to go to ensure that our population understands the signs and symptoms of cancer and where to go for help.  There are still people within our communities that refuse to speak about cancer and at some point in our lives we will be touched by it either ourselves or our families and friends.

The MECC cancer module is part of the overarching cancer early detection programme and is designed to equip frontline staff with the tools to be able to have appropriate brief conversations with others we meet.

Each session will last 1 hour and contains the following,

  • Understanding the benefits of early detection.
  • Busting cancer myths
  • Understanding signs and symptoms and what you need to do if you are worried about a symptom
  • Where to go for help
  • Having the confidence to talk about cancer.

The sessions are interactive, there aren’t any nasty pictures and those who have attended so far have scored it 96% from 100%.
