Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2023

Location: Community venues within Ashton under Lyne with some homeworking.

The Role

Action Together are recruiting a Community Development Worker to develop asset based community development approaches with local people, VCFS groups and partners that provide solutions to locally identified priorities and ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of local people.  

The Community Development Worker will:

  • Seek to empower local people to identify their own priorities and work towards developing their own solutions in partnership.
  • Work using asset based methods to find, support and develop community assets including;
  • - local peoples’ skills, aspirations, commitment, and experience,
  • - local public-sector agencies and infrastructure, VCFS groups and businesses,
  • - local places.
  • Develop deep insight into the neighbourhood you work in, building extensive knowledge of the strengths and assets of the people and the area.
  • Capture, report and share insight and learning to amplify the voices of local people and the people that VCFSE organisations work with.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers to support this work.
  • To facilitate meetings, events and training that meets these aims.
  • Record, monitor and evaluate your work in accordance with the needs of the programme to evidence the difference made through asset based approaches (e.g. using our Civi CRM database, and our online directory, etc).
  • Promote the funding available to support activities associated with this project and the wider Action Together offer.
  • Champion the ability of communities to develop their own solutions with partner agencies.
  • Champion, promote and support the self-care programme throughout your working practice.
  • Attend partnership meetings as required for this role.

About You

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who;

  • Is passionate about tackling inequality and striving for social justice
  • Has experience of building trusting relationships with people and organisations
  • Is an experienced facilitator and comfortable in working through differences
  • Is solution focussed and knows how to turn ideas into action
  • Is a great listener and able to understand a variety of perspectives and experiences
  • Is organised and good at making things happen and communicating it with others
  • Has worked in (or significant experience of working with) the VCFSE sector, particularly small community and volunteer led groups
  • Understands community development and working in a way that promotes inclusion
  • Has the skills to listen, interpret and capture insight and experiences
  • Can produce high quality reports and present these in an accessible way to a wide range of audiences
