Commercial tenants unable to pay rent because of Coronavirus will be protected from eviction
The Government has announced a three month protection for organisations from being evicted due to non-payment of rent.
An emergency Coronavirus Bill is currently going through Parliament which includes measures which will mean that if a business misses a payment within the next three months, that they will not be forced out of their premises. Further measures will include supporting conversations between tenants and their landlords about voluntary arrangements.
Commercial tenants will still, however, remain liable for the rent over this period.
New measures brought into the Coronavirus Bill will also include support to the Business Improvement Districts (BID) with equipment to enable them to carry on managing the impact of the pandemic on local economies and also to help high streets and town centres to function.
