Funding to celebrate the Windrush Generation

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) are inviting bidders to apply for a portion of £500,000 to fund Windrush community events.

The Windrush Generation and subsequent migrants, and their descendants have made a large contribution to Britain’s cultural, social and economic life. The intention is to recognise and promote understanding of this contribution and to make clear to those of Caribbean descent that Government values their enormous contribution to our national life and wishes to recognise that contribution. Grants are therefore being offered to support celebrations that recognise the arrival of MV Empire Windrush and the contribution of the Windrush Generation.

The MHCLG are looking for organisations to run a community led project or projects seeking to celebrate, commemorate and educate communities about the history of the MV Empire Windrush. This includes those who arrived on the ship, their contemporaries and descendants, and the contribution A budget of up to £500,000 is available to fund events and projects across the country, with £150,000 earmarked for charities and community groups. The minimum amount available is £2,500 and the maximum is £25,000.
