Gain a Level 1 Award in Practical Horticulture Skills, leading to a nationally recognised City & Guilds qualification. The course is delivered by YMCA Training,
experts in education, health and wellbeing.
The combination of tailored training and work placement will give you a good basic understanding of the horticulture industry while giving you practical gardening skills in a realistic setting.
WHAT YOU WIILL LEARN
You’ll learn a variety of skills such as:
- Turf care and identifying weeds
- Plant production and care for a planted area
- Pruning techniques for a variety of plants
- Applying fertilisers
- Preparing soil and applying an organic mulch
- Preparing and planting a hanging basket
For your assessment you’ll give practical demonstrations of the skills you learned.
PREREQUISITES
To enrol you must:
- have a disabilty
- be over 18 years old
- be unemployed
- be interested in horticulture / gardening
- be able to complete a pre-course assessment
