Many LGBT people will be feeling vulnerable, isolated and anxious during these difficult times. LGBT Foundation is committed to working in partnership with other services to ensure that they continue to provide the best possible support to LGBT communities.
Please find below information on how they continue to support our community and how you can better support your LGBT service users during this time.
Remote services
LGBT Foundation has temporarily shifted to become a remote service delivery charity due to the coronavirus pandemic, you can find out more about which of our services are operating and how to access them in the attached document.
The LGBT Community and Covid-19
We appreciate that services may feel unaware or ill equipped as to how they can support LGBT people during this time.
With this in mind, LGBT Foundation has produced two briefing sheets highlighting the experiences of LGBT communities, vital information for healthcare professionals and guidance on signposting patients to additional support during a time when NHS resources are under stress.
Attached is a short briefing sheet. A more comprehensive version of which can be found here.
Domestic Abuse Training for Services
The Domestic Abuse program provides free LGBT Domestic Abuse training to professionals and organisations who might directly or indirectly support LGBT victims. The training covers the unique experiences faced by LGBT victims and how the dynamics differ for these victims. The training also explains the individual, structural and cultural barriers LGBT victims of Domestic Abuse face when accessing Domestic Abuse services. Through the training, you will learn how to be more inclusive and confident in your practice, procedures and policies in regards to supporting LGBT service users. By attending the training, we will discuss how our organisations can work more closely in partnership and the trainer will be a specific point of contact for consultancy after the training.
If you wish to access this training please contact dasupport@lgbt.foundation.
Survey
We have launched a survey for LGBT people to tell us how Coronavirus has affected them. This information will be used to add additional evidence to briefing sheets, and to help inform services and support for LGBT communities during this time. You can complete the survey here. We want to share both the survey and the health inequalities briefing sheets with as many people as possible, so please feel free to share this email with your own contacts, colleagues and networks.
