Could you be part of Mind in Greater Manchester’s ambitious future and help us to support more people with mental health problems?

We are a collective of five independent local charities (Mind in Salford, Rochdale and District Mind, Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind, Manchester Mind and Stockport and District Mind) working across Greater Manchester and affiliated to national Mind. Our shared vision is that we won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect. We have an excellent reputation in each of our areas and deliver varied and impactful services that are truly transformational for those who access them, and we contribute to the wellbeing and social value in the wider community.

 The opportunity

We’re looking for highly motivated individuals to become trustees on all five of our Boards. Trustees are our most senior leaders. They set our strategic direction, make sure we’re using our resources effectively and ensure we’re having the greatest possible impact on our community. Trustees are expected to undertake duties in a manner that reflects each organisations values and ethos; and which is open, non-oppressive, respectful, led by lived experience and committed to diversity.

We’re looking for dedicated, empathetic and ambitious candidates to help make our mission a reality and lead us closer towards our ultimate ambition: a society where everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

As a trustee you will, as part of an active board:

      •    think strategically and creatively

      •    lead the organisation towards fully achieving its ambition

      •    scrutinise the impact we’re having and provide challenge where appropriate

      •    communicate clearly and sensitively in group discussions

      •    use independent judgement to contribute to decisions on behalf of the organisation

      •    be committed to our values (www.gmminds.org.uk)

Diversity is critical for a board to be effective; enabling varied discussions, active debate and decision making, so that together we can have the greatest impact. We encourage applications from people with lived experience of mental health problems and from all ethnic, socio-economic, religious and professional and personal backgrounds. Whether you’re an experienced trustee or taking your first steps into governance, if you have the commitment, values and skills, we want to hear from you.

As a trustee, you will have:

      •    Induction, training and your expenses reimbursed

      •    Opportunities to develop new skills

      •    An annual appraisal to help support your development

Time Commitment

The trustee role is voluntary with expenses paid, a commitment of approximately 4-8 hours per month. Each board is different but there is maximum of one meeting per month taking place - currently virtually via video-conference.

How to apply

To express interest in becoming a trustee, please send your CV and a short expression of interest (max 500 words) stating why you are interested in the role and which of the stated skills and attributes you aim to bring, to recruitment@gmmind.org.uk. Due to limited capacity, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

We are requesting expressions of interest by 5pm on the 30th April. Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an Enhanced level Disclosure and Barring Service check, as well as company director and charity trustee disqualification checks.
