National
This week, National Voices has published a collective statement on behalf of 61 charities and social enterprises, which calls for the need to broaden the debate on health and recognise the importance of communities.
The statement opens by acknowledging a decline in the nation’s health and that this risks being overlooked in the election debate regarding health, which is at present, ‘too simplistic’.
These are the key messages that underpin the collective statement:
- The NHS is essential, but good health is about so much more.
- Health is made good or bad within the neighbourhoods and communities we live.
- Life expectancy gains have stalled, and we are living more years in bad health.
- We need:
- 1) Health in all policies
- 2) Collaboration across parties and departments
- 3) Time for domestic policy agendas, including public health
- 4) Urgent investment into communities
- 5) A comprehensive settlement for social care.
