Ambition for Ageing
Ambition for Ageing has published a policy review - which has now been updated - on alternatives to cash during COVID-19. They explore a number of options for alternatives to cash for shielding people during COVID-19, with a particular focus on older people, identifying the pros and cons of each alternative. Options for alternatives to cash are limited due to a range of options, in particular digital exclusion and a lack of access to debit cards of bank accounts as a result of deprivation.

Bereavement Services
A national Bereavement Helpline is being created for families who lose a loved one as a direct result of Covid-19.
In the meantime, the Good Grief Trust is a great resource and they have published guidance regarding coronavirus.

Covid-19 Survival Cookbook & Other Stories
Life during lock-down has certainly been challenging, and so with their Healthy Generations project Beth Johnson Foundation (BJF) have been working hard to find innovative ways of bringing people together safely; physically distanced yet socially connected. Using digital technology, they have brought older adults across Stoke-on-Trent together in ‘virtual’ groups, challenging isolation and increasing social interaction by providing new ways for people to communicate. The 'Covid-19 Survival Cookbook and Other Stories' is a collection of their conversations, from recipes and poems to thoughts and dilemmas.

Health Innovation Network
The Health Innovation Network has produced a resource, to support the provision of activities in older adult’s mental health inpatient settings and Care Homes during the national response to Covid 19. Many of the resources included are dementia-friendly.
Keeping Well at Home

Working with the University of Manchester GMCA have produced a guide to help older people in Greater Manchester keep well while at home.
The booklet is packed full of health and dietary advice, including a programme of standing and sitting strength and balance exercises.
It gives useful tips on keeping minds active, eating and drinking at home and safety.

Tech and Tea
Inspiring Communities Together have teamed up with Salford CVS to launch Tech and Tea Online, providing free weekly online classes aimed at older people. A brand new way to engage with people using their tech at home.

The free weekly online class are aimed at older people and can be accessed via a weekly Tech and Tea Online e-newsletter.
If you have not done a Tech and Tea course and are therefore not registered, please complete this short online form (select IT courses in the list of enquiry interests) and you will be added to the distribution list to receive details of upcoming classes and access to videos and handy handouts!
Support networks set up by older people
Older people have set up support networks to cope with the lockdown in the UK. Initiatives include online quizzes, emails with daily jokes and uplifting news.

RAD@Home - Silver Swans
RAD@Home is a whole raft of content to help you make the most of dancing at home.
This includes free online ‘Silver Swans’ ballet exercise classes designed to get the older generation moving to the music at home. From experienced dancers to those that don’t know their plié from their pointe, older learners of any ability are invited to try out free Silver Swans classes. Shared in manageable bitesize videos, viewers can work on these during the week before moving onto the next exercise.
The classes can also be viewed on YouTube, Facebook and IGTV.
