Salford Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) create a 'Coronaquilt' art project
As part of Refugee Week 2020 the project was inspired by Art Refuge which is a charity supporting displaced people through art and art therapy. EMTAS invited Salford pupils to create a square image on the theme 'imagine'. The square could be done using collage, paint, drawing, photography or text.
The purpose of the project was to 'imagine' a better world to counter-balance the current pandemic issues.
The project received 199 entries across all age groups. The entries were from 13 schools, Salford College and Salford Foyer. All entrants are to receive a Salford Coronaquilt pen. Additional prizes are to be awarded to the best three entrants from each school. All schools which entered will also receive a post of the quilt to display.
The overall winners were:
Age 5-11 years category: A year one pupil from Summerville Primary School
Age 11+ years category: A year 11 pupil from St Patricks RC High School
The finished Coronaquilt will now be sent to The Lowry to be part of the "Days Like These" virtual exhibition.
