The 22nd July 2019 marked 100 years, to the day, of the formation of Manchester and Salford Council of Social Service (MSCSS).
On this day we held an event, jointly organised with Macc and Gaddum, at the People's History Museum to celebrate a century of social action across the twin cities of Salford and Manchester.
Both Salford CVS and Macc originated from MSCSS, with Henry Gaddum its first Chair - hence the link to Gaddum.
Gaddum was established as a direct result of the cholera epidemic in Salford and Manchester. MSCSS was established as a direct response to the aftermath of World War One, with food poverty, disability, housing shortages, etc. endemic in our cities.
You can find out more about the event and our joint histories on twitter with #100Years or via our twitter moment linked to below.

*Written by Emily White and published in 1969, this booklet has been faithfully reproduced as it provides important information about the first 50 years of MSCSS. However, some of the text is a product of its time and includes words and phrases that are not acceptable today. It is a historical document and does not represent our organisation's current views.
