Trustees Week

4th to 8th November 2019

Trustees are unsung heroes in the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector and at Salford CVS we recognise they can bring valuable skills, knowledge and expertise to the VCSE groups and organisations they support. 

At Salford CVS throughout the year, we offer training, information, advice and guidance as well as board development support to Trustees.

This year for Trustees Week (4th to 8th November), we will be hosting a range of activities to support trustees and potential trustees to make a difference in Salford.

Activities include:

Trustee in Training Event

Trustees in Training

Monday 4th November

We are hosting a Trustee Recruitment event on Monday 4th November, 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Forhousing, Head Office, 52 Regent Street, Eccles, Salford, M30 0BD.

This event will provide a forum for:

  • Potential trustees to have one to one conversations with Charities/Social Enterprise
  • Your organisation opportunity to get to know potential trustees 
  • Networking opportunities with other Trustees across Salford
  • Opportunity to learn about our new “Trustee in Training” Programme

If your organisation is looking for trustees why not book a stall and identify a potential trustee. Contact Lesmond.taylor@salfordcvs.co.uk

All you need is 2 individuals to represent your organisation on the night, literature, organisational flyers and popup banner. A shared table will be provided for all groups recruiting trustees. Bring your enthusiasm, business cards and contact details for your organisation. Along with your 60 second elevator pitch.  

Trustees Big Advice Day

Wednesday 6th November

Are you a trustee? Have you a burning question about being a trustee and your roles and responsibilities? Or need some advice on a knotty problem?

At Salford CVS we are hosting a Trustee’s Big Advice day on the Wednesday 6th November at our HQ in Eccles – The Old Town Hall, 5 Irwell Place, Eccles, Salford, M30 0FN.

There will be a drop in from 10am to 7pm where you can have a 1-2-1 with a member of our team. 

In addition, we will be running three workshops in our Training Room including:

Fundraising Strategy

With Jeremy Engineer

Having a clear fundraising strategy is essential for financial sustainability of every charity.  This session will outline what a fundraising strategy looks like and why it is important for trustees to be involved in the development, delivery and monitoring of this strategy.

Safeguarding for Trustees

With Deb Drinkwater

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and should be a key governance priority for all charities, whether they work with children and young people and/or vulnerable adults or not. This session will focus on the safeguarding roles and responsibilities of trustees from a Salford perspective.

6.30pm to 7.30pm

Legal obligations for Trustees

With Lesmond Taylor

It’s important that charities are run effectively and comply with all its legal obligations - otherwise this can lead to poor reputation, loss of funding, or even prosecution. This session will focus on the legal duties obligations of trustees and what is expected by the Charity Commission.

Asset Transfers

Thursday 7th November

Salford CVS is partnering with the UK’s leading property advice charity the Ethical Property Foundation who will be delivering a workshop on Community Asset Transfer.

You will work with real life case studies from other community organisations and learn:

  • Trustee responsibility in relation to Community Asset Transfer
  • How to ensure that the Community Asset is a benefit and not a liability to your organisation
  • To understand the 5 key stages of Community Asset Transfer
  • About different types of property ownership – freehold v lease and licence
  • To recognise & manage risks involved in Community Asset Transfer
  • How to implement effective property management

Venue: St Sebastian Community Centre, Douglas Green, Salford, M6 6ES

1.30pm - 3.30pm Confidential 1:1 Advice Clinic

Ethical Property Foundation are also offering free 30-minute confidential 1:1 advice sessions with property experts. These will run from 1.30-3.30 and are available on a first come first served basis.
