Drawing on written evidence already submitted to the inquiry on the Unequal Impact: coronavirus and the impact on people with protected characteristics, the sub-inquiry will focus specifically on the impact on BAME people during the pandemic.
If you have already submitted evidence to the Unequal Impact inquiry, then you will not need to re-submit. However, you can submit new evidence to the Committee that is relevant to the terms of reference for this sub-inquiry.
The Committee would like to hear your views, and what actions you think the Government and others can take to mitigate impacts, so the Committee can make clear and effective recommendations for change.
Written submissions should address one or more of the following terms of reference. If possible, you should explain the challenges experienced and recommend ways to mitigate them.
- Factors that made BAME communities vulnerable to the effects of the virus, for example living in overcrowded housing, health inequality, deprivation;
- The impact of the pandemic on BAME communities, for example higher death rates, exposure to the virus;
- The impact of the Government measures to contain the virus on BAME people, for example difficulty in self-isolating, being keyworkers, loss of income; and
- Other factors that have amplified the impacts of the pandemic on BAME people may also arise and be explored such as a reported rise of hate crimes, no recourse to public funds, unconscious bias in educational settings, inaccessible Government guidance due to English not always being the first language.
The deadline for written evidence submissions is 10 July.
