Big Ideas Fund collage

In 2022, Salford CVS awarded grants of up to £25,000 to VCSE sector organisations in Salford to invest in resources that would continue to benefit their organisation and community for many years to come, or to pilot an innovative project linked to Salford’s Great Eight. Social, economic and environmental sustainability had to be at the heart of their ‘big idea’.

START, the esteemed mental health charity in Salford, is delighted to unveil its forthcoming Vigil & Procession of Remembrance in commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day. This profound event, is being run by its award-winning initiative 'Reach Out; Start to End Suicide' and with the support of the Salford Integrated Care Partnership, has garnered the backing Living Experience Advocate, Melanie Anderton. Its mission is to pay homage to those who have been lost to suicide and extend a hand of support to the bereaved.

In April 2022 the Brain and Spinal Injury Centre (BASIC) were awarded a Big Ideas Fund grant by Salford CVS (supported by NHS Salford ICP) to purchase a wheelchair accessible electric vehicle to provide low-cost transport for their clients. This proved to be a great success in enabling local people to access therapeutic services at BASIC, hospital appointments and social activities.

Salford City Council has committed over £3 million to provide essential support to residents, families and young people facing challenges with the rising cost of living.

The funds come from a one-off refund of £3.203 million from the Greater Manchester Waste Levy and will form part of our on-going commitment to help address the economic hardships experienced by some of our households in the city.

Nine outdoor spaces in Salford have been voted amongst the best in Britain.

Agecroft Cemetery, Blackleach Country Park, Boothsbank Park, Clifton Country Park, Parr Fold Park, Peel Green Cemetery, Peel Park, Victoria Park and Winton Park were all recognised in The Green Flag awards 2023.

The seven parks and two cemeteries were assessed by a panel of judges and were rated on how welcoming, clean, healthy, safe and secure they were and how well they involve the local community.

Screenshot of New plan for nature to help make a greener Greater Manchester

 

Greater Manchester has kicked off development on a new plan designed to help nature recover across the city-region, following confirmation of funding from the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Greater Manchester Combined Authority has been allocated around £250,000 to develop its Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) over the next two years, building on the city-region’s successful LNRS pilot which concluded in September 2021.

The Big Conversation: how your voice influenced the Greater Manchester (GM) Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) five year plan

When the GM ICP started to develop the five year strategy for health and care, they wanted to make sure people and communities had the chance to be involved.  A Big Conversation took place which was led by the VCSE sector in GM.  This enabled us to reach deep into communities and involve underserved and inclusion health groups to find out what matters most to them.

Salford Arts Funding Partnership Fund
  • City to receive almost £750,000 funding from Arts Council England
  • Funding received following a bid from Salford Culture and Place Partnership, led by Salford City Council
  • Funding will enable planning for a three-year programme of creative activities across the city
  • Events to be hosted in the city’s parks, gardens and high streets
  • Plans follow on from success of ‘We Invented the Weekend’ event in June

We are delighted that we have been awarded the Third Sector Champion Award at the 2023 Living Champion Awards for our commitment to advancing the real Living Wage within the sector!

“Winning the Third Sector Champion Award is testament to the leadership of our Chief Executive, Alison Page, who first pushed for accreditation as a Living Wage Employer in 2013, followed by becoming a Living Wage Funder in 2018. Alison also played a major role in Salford becoming the UK’s first Living Wage City in 2019.
