African Rainbow Family
African Rainbow Family (ARF) is a registered grassroots charity that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) people of African heritage and the wider Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic groups. ARF was established in 2014 by a lesbian in the wake of some Commonwealth countries in Africa’s toxic and draconian anti-gay laws; persecutions and environment which seek to criminalise LGBTIQs for the preference of whom they choose to love. The charity was established in 2009 to support French speaking asylum seekers and refugees living in the Greater Manchester especially in Salford. The charity now has a wider remit of helping the local community in Salford and surrounding areas such as Cheetwood, Cheetham Hill. We run community activities that are preventative as well as early intervention which allow the community to make informed choices and improve their quality of life. Most of our activities aim to alleviate isolation and depression, including emotional wellbeing, social, physical and recreational activities.
