Who do you work with?: Mental health problems (people with), Unemployed people, , Young people (aged 20-25)
Organisation description: Double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes founded our charity in 2008 with a passion to support disadvantaged, marginalized and vulnerable young people to lead more positive and healthy lives. Every year we get thousands of young lives back on track by training and developing world class athletes to mentor young people facing disadvantage.

Our personal, social and emotional development programmes are proven to have a lasting impact on the lives of young people, enabling them to become healthy, achieve in education, enjoy career success, and take part in meaningful activities. We provide a range of transformational programmes, both in schools and in the community, as well as short inspirational programmes. Some of our programmes are targeted at specific groups, for example, female-only programmes or programmes targeting young people in the criminal justice system.

Uniquely, all our sessions are delivered by world class athletes, trained by Dame Kelly Holmes Trust to be effective mentors for young people. Elite athletes are naturally high performing and proven to be exceptional leaders for change in young people and communities. Athlete mentors will focus on character development, which we believe is essential in achieving our outcomes in employment, education and training.

We aim to enhance the following key attitudes in young people; resilience, confidence, motivation, focus and determination. World-class athletes possess these attitudes in abundance and, through our intensive training programme, become incredibly effective at unlocking these attitudes in others.

Our flagship programme ‘Get on Track’ works for 14 months with young people facing disadvantage who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) and facing complex barriers. These young people need a development programme that looks at the whole picture, not just basic CV writing and other employability skills.
