Helping Our Kehillah

Categories of Work: Befriending, Poverty/low income
Who do you work with?: Faith communities, Families and/or parents, Low income (people on), Other
Organisation description: We prevent and alleviate poverty by hand-delivering food boxes or hot meals to families facing food insecurity, as well as the low mood and isolation that often accompany it. Deliveries are carried out by trained befrienders and serve as an entry point to reach isolated people.

Each visit provides an opportunity to listen, understand the family’s circumstances, and begin a personalised care plan. The care plan sets out practical steps towards financial stability, including signposting to other services or charities.

To reduce social isolation, we connect people to charitable and community events, and where confidence is low, a befriender will accompany them until they feel able to attend independently.

Follow-up takes place weekly. These check-ins build accountability and motivation, helping families take consistent steps towards stability. Support is confidential, culturally sensitive, delivered throughout the week at mutually convenient times, and designed to prevent immediate crisis while building longer-term pathways to financial independence and dignity. We support the Jewish community.
