The Salford CVS office will be open as usual until 3pm on Thursday 24 December 2020. We will be open Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30th as usual (9-4:30) and on Thursday 31 December from 9 till 3pm.

We will resume our regular office hours (9am - 4.30pm) from Monday 4 January 2021.

The directory is organised thematically, with information available on bereavement, business support, children and young people, carers, disability and autism, food banks and clubs, health conditions, homelessness, LGBTQ+, mental health, older people, recovery and addiction and victim support. The Federation of Jewish Services (The Fed) has recently researched and published the brand-new Manchester Jewish Services Directory on behalf of the Manchester Jewish Community Strategic Group. The directory is a one-stop-shop for community support and has details of 39 vital organisations.

Salford Foodbank

Salford Foodbank will be offering a limited service between Christmas and New Year. Before Christmas, the last Distribution sessions will be on Wednesday 23rd December at Swinton Gateway and Broughton Hub from 10:00am until 4:00pm.

On 29th and 30th December a limited service will be available at Salford Foodbank’s HQ at Kansas Avenue for our Referral Agencies to pick up between 10:00am and 1:00pm.

Additionally, Swinton Gateway will be open on Wednesday 30th December and Broughton Hub on Thursday 31st December from 10:00am until 2:00pm.

After New Year, the first sessions will be on Monday 4th January at Swinton Gateway and Broughton Hub from 10:00am until 4:00pm, and at St Andrews Church, Eccles from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.

From then on, normal service returns.

Street Support

Street Support Network have put together an extensive list of advice for anyone who would like to get help and give help across Greater Manchester. Their advice covers anything from homelessness, access to food, healthcare, and housing support.

They also provide a great map of where you can find support across Manchester City.

LGBT Foundation

LGBT Foundation Helpline and Guide to Surviving Christmas Alone

Christmas is a challenging time for many LGBT people, and this year may be particularly tough. No one should feel alone this time of year - that's why LGBT Foundation's helpline is open every day over the festive season, you can call 0345 3 30 30 30.

Citizens Advice Salford have reopened limited face-to-face services across Salford. Find the details of which services are available close to you here.

These services are prioritised for people who will have difficulty accessing us by phone or email and should not be used if you have symptoms of Covid-19 or have been in contact with someone with Covid 19. We ask that you wear a face covering unless you are exempted from doing so.

Self Help Services

Download the Christmas and New Year timetable for online peer support drop-in Group Sessions for people experiencing anxiety, low mood and depression.

These are non-clinical sessions and partners may signpost people to the sessions or people can simply drop in online. There is no need to download and install any software, no need to register and no commitment – people may simply join any sessions they wish once they have been sent the session details after contacting Self Help as shown on the flyers.

The Silver Line

The Silver Line is a free, 24 hour, confidential helpline for older people. The Silver Line also offer telephone and letter friendship schemes where we match volunteers with older people based on their interests.

Severe cold weather is predicted in the North West for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, between 1am on 24 December and 11pm on 25 December 2020.

Spirit of Salford helpline and Gateway Centres

Spirit of Salford Helpline has been set up for you to get help, support and advice on lots of different issues that you might be facing at the moment.

The helpline can also connect those in need of mental health support with the Salford mental health collaborative, Beyond. This service is for people not known to the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The helpline number is 0800 952 1000 and is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm. Alternatively, you can visit the Spirit of Salford Helpline webpage.

test and trace support payment

Test and Trace Support Payment

Salford residents who have received a notification to self-isolate from NHS Test and Trace on or after 28 September 2020 may be eligible for a test and trace support payment of £500. People can apply for this payment if they can demonstrate that ALL five of the following criteria apply to them:

  1. I have received an NHS Test and Trace notification on or after Monday 28 September 2020 either because I have tested positive for coronavirus or have recently been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.
  2. I am currently employed or self-employed.
  3. I am unable to work from home.
  4. I will lose income during the period that I am required to self-isolate.
  5. I am currently in receipt of Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, income-based Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit and/or Pension Credit.

It will be open between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Telephone 0161 631 4777, email via social.services@salford.gov.uk, or if you are deaf text 07970 134894.

Outside these hours, if you need immediate help they can be contacted on the emergency duty service on 0161 794 8888 or minicom 0161 793 3303.

Many community and social care services will be open as normal, apart from bank holidays. However, people who use care services should contact their care provider to check arrangements.

The Greater Manchester Prepared website has lots of useful information including cold weather advice, power cuts, The Flood Hub (for floods advice and information) and information on preparing yourself for an emergency.

NHS and Pharmacies

If you feel unwell over the holidays your first call should be to NHS 111. This is free to call from landlines and mobiles, open 24 hours, seven days a week. Your symptoms will be assessed on the call and you will be advised where to go if you need further advice / treatment, such as an out-of-hours GP or pharmacy.

Salford Foodbank don’t think anyone should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. You can donate any tinned goods or non-perishable items (click here to view a list of items they are in particular need of)

Media City based Carbon Creative have transformed a shed at ‘Box on the Docks into a striking Salford Food Bank collection box to support local families in need.

‘The Food Gift Box’ is now complete and ready to accept donations. The box has been fitted with cleverly designed donation drop off holes, to separate out donations allowing for easy sorting by the foodbank team. Find out more

Dancing With Dementia are a small Salford charity which reaches out to help people living with dementia, their families, friends and carers. The charity's volunteers and supporters would like to offer their friends living with dementia a treat to add brightness and sparkle to their festive season. 12 Days of Giving Draw

12 Days of Giving Draw

Movement for Good's 12 days of giving will provide vital support to remarkable organisations. The draw is open to UK, Irish, Channel Islands and Isle of Man registered charities, not-for-profit organisations and community interest companies. Ten winners will be drawn at random each weekday to receive £1,000 and nominations will remain open until midnight the day before each draw. Draws will take place each weekday from 7 – 22 December 2020. Nominate a good cause now and spread the word to increase their chances of winning the draw!

Nativity Window Trail

Nativity Window Trail to spread hope in Salford

The Nativity Window Trail is a fun way to celebrate the message and meaning of Christmas. Get involved in this community Christmas celebrating by decorating a window on the theme of Hope which will form a trail for households to go around outdoors. There will be an interactive map which shows families which streets the windows are on across Salford for people to find windows near them. The trail will run from 7 - 13 December 2020.
