Letter from Salford City Council’s Executive Director of Adult Social Care

Dear Partners,

Following on from my email to you all last month regarding the outcome of the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) assessment of Adult Social Care in Salford I wanted to thank you for your continued support.

We will only deliver the improvements that we plan to make by working together and co-producing changes to the way that adult social care in the city is delivered.

Salford CVS is an active and valued member of our Adult Social Care Improvement Board. Board members are drawn from across the local Salford health and social care system partnership. Working together with me and my team of Salford City Council officers we share a common commitment to collectively, proactively and robustly address, and deliver at pace, the improvements that are required.

The Care Quality Commission has rated adult social care services in Salford as inadequate. However, inspectors specifically recognised the positive contribution that has and continues to be made by colleagues from Salford CVS and the wider VCSE sector in Salford.

In the report the CQC highlighted what it described as a “vibrant and varied Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCSFE) sector which provided valuable support to the local community.”

Inspectors noted how “Voluntary and community organisations worked with the local authority to support the delivery of Care Act duties and that workshops with the voluntary sector had been positive.”
The report went on to acknowledge the contribution that community organisations are making to the “delivery of Care Act duties, prevention, information and advice, social prescribing, and collaborative design work such as Living Well and the emerging front-door model.”

There is much for us to do. Together we are creating a new vision for delivering adult social care here in Salford. Your continuing support will enable us to make the improvements that we need to make to ensure that every person in Salford can lead fulfilling, healthy, safe and independent lives.

I will provide you with regular updates on the progress that we are making. You might also be interested to know that we have a dedicated page on the Salford City Council website which you might find useful:

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me with your thoughts and your ideas. Thank you and please pass on my thanks to your teams for everything that they do every day to support people in Salford.
