Organisation description: Open Kitchen MCR is a non-for-profit social enterprise. Our corporate events and meetings catering works on a pay-it-forward model - with all profits reinvested directly into the community. We’re a Real Living Wage Employer and a registered Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter Supporter.
Every week we intercept and redistribute essential items to local pantries & grocer schemes. Our catering is created by chefs from scratch using perfectly good, quality, intercepted surplus and/or locally, sustainably and ethically sourced ingredients.
We support organisations who are working to end the need for emergency food provision and get people out of poverty in real and lasting ways. This includes funding community growing schemes and our Food Education Programme, which teaches primary students how to cook and eat more sustainably. The aim is to empower the next generation with the confidence and culinary skills to create a more resilient, waste-free future.
We also support initiatives such as The Good Food Bill, calling on the government to ensure nutrition and food security for current and future generations.
