Organisation description: We are a group of radio broadcasters/presenters. We broadcast twice a month in Mandarin and Cantonese, 2 of the main languages spoken by the local Chinese communities. After the live broadcast at a local community radio station, we make available the show on www.mixcloud.com/Dragonsvoice and Facebook.com/allfmDragonsvoice so anyone with internet access can listen to our shows
We use radio production and broadcasting as a way to help our volunteers, who are mainly Chinese people, learn new transferrable skills especially digital skills, increase their self confidence in communication and help them intergrate with the wider communities. Each show is co-produced and co-created by a small group of volunteers so we all take turns to broadcast a chosen theme which includes health, leisure, world and local events. In 2025 we started broadcasting in English too as some listeners are very interested in Chinese culture but could not understand what we broadcast in Chinese languages. To this end we have recruited younger English speaking volunteers to train them as radio presenters.
Some of our volunteers are also skilled in traditional Chinese arts and crafts and we provide sessions to local libraries' events or when funded to local communities. We organise a yearly Chinese New Year celebratory event for all our volunteers, families and friends and open up the event to local communities to promote inclusivity.
We have supported another group to register as a CIC and are working in partnership with this organisation to apply for funding for cultural activities.
