Description:

Aged 18-25 and looking for a chance to gain some international development experience abroad, or aged 23+ and have experience in leading young people? Are you interested in a fantastic work experience placement that will help you gain further skills and knowledge? Then volunteer with Progressio International Citizen Service (ICS). ICS is a scheme funded by the Department for International Development, a part of the UK Government. You get the chance to spend 10 weeks working on projects in developing countries and you only need to fundraise £800 - £1500 (no hidden costs!) We work with local volunteers and partners that have specifically requested our help – and where the energy and skills of young volunteers can make a direct impact in helping local people and communities to overcome poverty. The projects are in 5 countries – El Salvador, Honduras, Malawi, Nicaragua and Zimbabwe. The volunteers work on community, education, rights-based and environmental projects. As well as helping to organise and deliver the team’s placement activities, each member of the group has a specific role too such as blogging, a visual media role, monitoring and evaluating the successes of the group, community relations and a language role. The team leader will support the volunteers in their individual roles as well as in their personal development, and ensure that the team is contributing to the success of the project.
The Team Leader is also the point of contact for the Progressio staff both in country and in the UK. Once back in the UK, the Progressio ICS Volunteers take part in ‘Action at Home’ by sharing their experiences and raising awareness of the needs, hopes and achievements of the people they have worked with and met during their time abroad.
