About the role
As a Gardening Group Lead Volunteer, you will support and lead a friendly, inclusive gardening group for local community members. You will help create a welcoming outdoor space where people can come together to grow, learn, and connect, while supporting physical activity, mental wellbeing, and social connection.
This role is particularly well suited to local school parents, offering flexible, daytime volunteering that fits around school hours and provides an opportunity to connect with the local community in a relaxed outdoor setting.
What’s involved?
• Leading or supporting gardening group sessions in a welcoming and inclusive way
• Encouraging participation and creating a friendly, non-judgemental atmosphere
• Supporting participants to take part at their own pace and ability
• Helping plan seasonal gardening activities (e.g. planting, watering, weeding, harvesting)
• Supporting the care and maintenance of garden spaces and equipment
• Promoting safe gardening practices and basic health and safety
• Collecting attendance information and informal feedback to help us understand and celebrate the impact of the group
• Following Langworthy Cornerstone policies and procedures to ensure all activities are safe, inclusive, and welcoming
Our Gardening Group Lead Volunteers are:
• Interested in gardening or growing (no formal qualifications needed)
• Friendly, patient, and encouraging
• Comfortable supporting small groups
• Inclusive and respectful of people with different abilities and confidence levels
• Reliable and able to help plan and lead sessions with support
• Local parents or carers looking for flexible, community-based volunteering
Time commitment
• Flexible and can fit around school drop-off and pick-up times
• Sessions typically last around 1–2 hours, usually during the daytime
• We ask for a commitment to attend agreed sessions to provide consistency for participants
