Holocaust Memorial Day 2026

Holocaust Memorial Day 2026

Each year on 27th January, communities across the UK come together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. It is a moment to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions of people who faced persecution under Nazi rule and in the genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

For 2026, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust has chosen the theme “Bridging Generations”. This theme is a reminder that the responsibility for remembrance is not held only by survivors. It now rests with their children, their grandchildren and with all of us who choose to listen, learn and carry these stories forward. It encourages intergenerational conversations that help ensure memories are not lost as time moves on and the number of survivors becomes smaller.

At Salford CVS, we believe deeply in the strength of community action and the difference local people can make when they stand together. “Bridging Generations” invites us to reflect as a community on what can happen when prejudice is left unchallenged. It encourages us to learn from one another across ages, cultures and experiences, and to continue building a city where kindness, solidarity and understanding take priority over division and hate.
