IGT Volunteers Help Local Homeless Charity

Thanks to 10 employee volunteers from IGT 3 rooms at Emmaus House were transformed and will now provide a home and workplace for homeless people in Salford.

On Thursday 27th March 2014 the team of 10 volunteers worked tirelessly, removing wallpaper, sanding, painting and glossing to complete the rooms to a high standard.

IGT volunteers    The charity they helped, Emmaus, is a homelessness charity with a difference, providing more than just a bed for the night for people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. They provide a home for as long as someone needs it, as well as meaningful work in their social enterprise. This works to help restore feelings of self-esteem and give people the opportunity to regain control of their lives.

Emmaus House will be a shop, workshop and living accommodation for 26 homeless people and thanks to staff at IGT its one step closer to opening.

After an exhausting days work the team left with the satisfaction that they have made a real difference to this local charity.

Councillor Valerie Burgoyne, the chair of Emmaus in Salford, said

“Emmaus House is a major step forward for Emmaus in Salford, similar communities have proved extremely successful in combating homelessness, and giving our companions much needed support. It also provides a service to the local community, supplying quality second hand furniture and bric-a-brac”.
