Live Well

What is Live Well?

Live Well is the Greater Manchester Mayor’s vision to ensure that every person, in every neighbourhood, can easily access the support they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
It focuses on reducing health inequalities and removing barriers so that marginalised or underserved communities can thrive within their own local areas.

The Live Well approach centres on three major shifts:

  1. Moving from analogue to digital
Expanding digital tools and platforms so people can access information, services, and support more easily and efficiently.

  2. From hospital to community
Strengthening local, community-based services so that people can receive help closer to home rather than relying primarily on hospital-based care.

  3. From treatment to prevention
Prioritising early intervention and preventative support to improve wellbeing before problems escalate.

This strategic direction closely aligns with the NHS Long Term Plan, which similarly emphasises digital innovation, strengthened community care, and proactive prevention.

No wrong door

How will this be done?

Multiple stakeholders and partners from all sectors across Greater Manchester have committed to strengthening community power and supporting community-led initiatives

Their shared aim is to ensure that residents feel empowered, have a meaningful voice, and are provided with opportunities to create sustainable, positive and lasting change within their neighbourhoods.

No wrong front door

A 'no wrong front door' approach does not mean that walking into a Live Well centre or space will immediately provide a solution to every issue you may have. Instead, it means that the centre or space will be equipped with the right knowledge, strong community connections, and effective partnership working to guide you to the support you need.

You will be clearly informed about what help can be provided on site, and you will receive clear, detailed information about how to access the most appropriate services elsewhere. Put simply, you will never be told 'we can’t help you here'.
