Are you a creative, passionate Children’s & Families Worker who loves working with volunteers and is ready to make a real difference building meaningful connections within the church and across the wider community?  If the answer is yes, we’d love to hear from you.

 

We are looking for a creative communicator and ‘people person’ to work flexibly across Oasis Sessions (see below), whose main responsibilities will be:-

  • To assist the Lead Children’s and Families Worker with the programme of Oasis Soft Play morning sessions each week worked flexibly, working closely with our volunteers.
  • To help recruit, train and provide support for our fabulous volunteers for each Oasis session by operating an effective rota (first 6 months only).
  • To attend, assist in leading and support our Sunday School Superintendent/Sunday Club Leader in developing our growing Sunday Club on at least two Sundays per month.
  • Ensure adequate supplies for our much-appreciated café, the main source being a weekly shopping trip to Aldi and Morrisons.
  • To help develop and set up new ‘after school’ creative initiatives to continue the development of mission and outreach with the local community.

Background: The Oasis Centre @Whitefield Methodist Church currently has over 35 volunteers and 5 part-time staff who help us provide a safe and affordable meeting space (an oasis!) to enable the creation of a more vibrant and integrated local community.  We do this by offering a variety of activities, currently in two areas during the week, including: -

 

  1. ‘Oasis Soft Play’ for parent/carers of 0-5s babies and toddlers- 5 mornings a week 9.30-11.30am providing hundreds of toys, craft, singing, school readiness opportunities as well as activities on our soft play frame – along with a ‘fairtrade’ café. Our caring ethos is to help both parent/carers and toddlers combat loneliness as they socialise; for toddlers to gain confidence and develop healthy social, physical and motor skills towards school readiness.

     
  2. ‘Oasis Afternoon Teas’ for the over 50s (currently 1st & 3rd Tuesday in the month - 2-4pm) providing bottomless filter coffee & tea, homemade cakes and sandwiches, all beautifully presented on their own 3-tiered cake stand – along with a raffle, games and lots of chat!

     

Hours: This is a flexible part-time role currently of 20 hours per week including 2 Sunday mornings per month and with a view to developing some after-school activities and occasional one-off events. The work will be based at the Church – Elms St, Whitefield, Manchester M45 8GQ

 

Salary: £14K-£15K depending on experience. The Methodist Church are a Living Wage Employer

The job will be offered as a three-year fixed-term contract.  This may be extended subject to funding.

 

There is a genuine Occupational Requirement for the holder of this post to be a Christian (under the GOR regulations specified in the Employment Equality Regulations 2003) and who will be in sympathy with the values and beliefs of the Methodist Church.

All reasonable expenses and travel costs will be reimbursed in accordance with standard Methodist guidelines when working away from base.

16 days statutory annual leave entitlement plus public holidays (FTE equates to 28 days). 

Employees will also be entitled to one paid ‘birthday leave’ day annually in addition to the statutory annual leave entitlement.
