Qualified Counsellor

Greater Manchester Rape Crisis is seeking a warm, skilled and trauma‑informed Counsellor to join our therapeutic team. This important role provides specialist counselling to women affected by rape and sexual abuse, helping ensure survivors receive safe, compassionate and empowering support.

As a Counsellor, you will deliver high‑quality, trauma‑informed one‑to‑one counselling, undertake clinical assessments, manage a therapeutic caseload, and contribute to the effective running of our counselling service. Working as part of a supportive team, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and inclusive environment where survivors can heal, rebuild and regain their autonomy.

We are looking for someone who is grounded, professional and confident in working with trauma, and who brings empathy, strong clinical skills and a commitment to survivor‑centred practice.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver trauma‑informed one‑to‑one counselling to female survivors
  • Complete clinical and risk assessments and develop support plans
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and ethical clinical records
  • Manage a caseload involving a range of trauma‑related presentations
  • Provide counselling both face‑to‑face and through secure online/telephone platforms
  • Support the smooth running of the counselling service where required
  • Contribute to safeguarding, risk management and multi‑agency working
  • Promote an inclusive, survivor‑centred approach in all aspects of your work

About You

  • Qualified counsellor (Level 4 Diploma or above)
  • Member of BACP or equivalent
  • Experience providing counselling to women who have experienced trauma, abuse or gender‑based violence
  • Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice, grounding and stabilisation
  • Skilled in assessment, safeguarding and maintaining safe boundaries
  • Compassionate, non‑judgemental and committed to anti‑oppressive practice
  • Organised, reliable and able to manage your own workload

Experience in the VAWG or sexual‑violence sector, or additional trauma‑specific training (e.g., EMDR, somatic work), is welcome but not essential.
