We want the Board to reflect the people and communities it serves, you don’t need to be an expert to get involved.
Q: Should I apply for the Chair or a Board Member role?
A: If you’re thinking about applying for the Chair position but aren’t certain it’s the right fit, we recommend applying anyway. Your application will also be considered for a broader Board Member role.
Q: Can I apply to join the Board if I live or work outside the area?
A: Yes. If you have a strong interest in the neighbourhood and want to contribute, you are welcome to apply even if you don’t live or work within the boundary. We want to include a wide range of perspectives and experiences.
Q: What is the time commitment and when will this time be required?
A: Board members are expected to commit up to 6 hours per month, while the Chair role requires up to 12 hours per month. This time will include attending Board meetings, preparation, and supporting community engagement activities. Meetings will primarily take place in the evenings, with some engagement events held at weekends. Where possible, there will be options to join meetings online. Any in‑person meetings will be held within the local community.
Q: If an organisation has a representative on the Neighbourhood Board, can it still receive Pride in Place funding?
A: Yes. Any conflicts of interest will be managed in line with standard governance processes. Board members will be required to declare any relevant interests and will not take part in discussions or decisions relating to their own organisation.
Q: Can funding only be spent within the neighbourhood’s designated boundary?
A: Not necessarily. Funding can be used to support activity or organisations outside the boundary where this clearly benefits residents within the neighbourhood. This may include services or provision that have a significant impact on the local community.
How to contribute ideas
Q: I have ideas but don’t feel I can represent the whole community, am I the right person for the Board?
A: Yes. We don’t expect any one person to represent the entire community. Board members are there to bring their own perspectives and listen to others. We will be doing wider engagement activity to ensure that a broad range of community views inform the Board’s work.
As a Board member, you would be expected to contribute your views, listen to others, and help shape ideas in a constructive and collaborative way.
Q: I have ideas but don’t want to join the Board, can I still get involved?
A: Absolutely. We welcome ideas from across the community. You can share your thoughts at engagement events or by contacting us directly at emma.eastwood@salfordcvs.co.uk. All contributions will help inform the Board’s discussions and decisions.
Board experience
Q: I don’t have any previous Board experience, can I still join?
A: Yes. You don’t need prior Board experience to get involved. What matters most is your interest in the area and your willingness to contribute. Training and support will be provided to help you feel confident in the role.
