Description:

Volunteers at Sunrose Learning Hub support our Guides by offering an extra pair of caring hands within our creative, nurturing sessions. Volunteers work alongside paid staff at all times and are never left alone with children.

Volunteer responsibilities may include:
Supporting creative activities such as arts & crafts, storytelling, games, and outdoor play
Sitting with children during activities while a Guide leads and oversees the session
Encouraging participation, confidence, and positive social interaction
Helping children stay engaged in activities through calm presence and gentle support
Assisting with setting up and tidying resources and activity areas
Supporting group routines and transitions with staff direction
Modelling kindness, respect, and inclusive behaviour

Volunteers do not:
Take responsibility for a child’s care, behaviour, or learning
Act as a 1-to-1 support worker
Make safeguarding or behavioural decisions
Provide personal care
Be counted within staff-to-child ratios
Work unsupervised or alone with children
All volunteers follow Sunrose’s safeguarding policies and work under the guidance and supervision of experienced staff.

Skills and qualifications that may be needed or developed:

We welcome volunteers who are kind, patient, and enthusiastic about supporting children in a creative, inclusive environment.

Essential:
A warm, calm, and reliable approach when working with children
An interest in play-based, creative, and child-led learning
Ability to follow guidance from Sunrose staff and work as part of a team
Good communication skills and a respectful, professional attitude
A willingness to follow safeguarding procedures and setting policies

Desirable (but not required):
Experience working with children or young people (formal or informal)
An interest in creative activities, arts & crafts, play, or outdoor learning
Experience supporting neurodivergent children (with guidance)
Students or individuals considering a future career in education, childcare, SEND, or community work

Checks & training:
An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Completion of a volunteer induction, including safeguarding
Ongoing supervision and support from Sunrose staff

No formal teaching or childcare qualifications are required for this role.
