Vocal Children, Young People & Families Forum
Date: Wednesday 8th May 10.00am - 12.00pm
Venue: Eccles Gateway, Community Rooms 1&2
Theme: Child Friendly City
The Covid Pandemic exacerbated child poverty and inequality in the UK which makes becoming a Child Friendly City even more important for Salford.
Child Friendly Cities, is a UNICEF led initiative that support local governments and their partners in realising the rights of children and young people at a local level using the UN Convention on the Rights of the child as it’s foundation.
A Child Friendly City is a place where children and young people:
- Express their opinions and influence decisions that affect them
- Have a fair chance in life regardless of their ethnic origin, religion, income, gender or ability
- Meet friends and have places to play and enjoy themselves
- Have a good start in life and grow up health and cared for
- Participate in family, cultural, city, community and social life
- Live in a safe, secure and clean environment with access to green spaces
- Are protected from exploitation, violence and abuse
The purpose of this Forum is to explore how we can work with our public sector partners to make sure that Salford is a city where the voices, needs, priorities and rights of children and young people are an integral part of public policies, programmes and decisions. It is an exciting opportunity to find out more about the Child Friendly City initiative and to share your insights around what exists already that supports the initiative and what potential barriers may need to be overcome.
